新福社区毗邻着莲花湖中学，每到中午放学时分，就会有很多家长拎着饭盒，在附近等待。孩子们放学后就只能在附近屋檐下、走廊里站着吃饭。特别是下雨天，孩子们吃饭极不方便。此情此景让社区党委书记龚海莲心里不是滋味，她与社区工作人员协商后，决定打一个“时间差”，利用中午社区活动室老年人不多的机会对孩子们开放，让孩子们进来坐着吃饭。这个惠民举措一实施就受到了家长和孩子们的欢迎，他们发自肺腑地感谢社区为他们打开了方便之门。

从今年年4月1日起，每天中午十二点，新福社区充满了浓浓的“烟火气”和“书香气”。孩子们在这里愉悦地吃着饭，饭后他们还会聚在一起聊聊天，于不知不觉中建立了同学友谊；社区活动室同时也是社区里的党建文化角“图书室”，里面存放着诗词、散文、小说等一系列图书，孩子们不时会翻阅一下喜欢的报刊和书籍，慢慢地，这里不知不觉中成了孩子们知识的海洋！
